I hate Mondays!

Monday, April 28th, 2008

I hate Mondays! My alarm clock failed to wake me up this morning, so I got a late start. Had to compete for the shower, which made me even more rushed to get ready for work! Then there were TWO (not just one, but TWO) car accidents blocking the roads on the way to work, causing me to have to detour TWICE to get to work! By the time I got to work I was wishing I had just stayed in bed and called in for a personal day off!

Earth Day 2008

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

Today is Earth Day 2008. Earth Day was founded by Senator Gaylord Nelson on April 22, 1970. It took seven years of his planning and campaigning and getting a grassroots campaign going to establish Earth Day as a day to bring attention to the environmental issues that face the Earth. Since that time, Earth Day has blossomed into a large event that is observed around the globe. I hope that holding Earth Day observances actually lead to real action to protect and improve our environment! We only have one Earth to live on, and we need to make sure it is here for our descendents to live on!

Planning to eat out tonight!

Friday, April 18th, 2008

Tonight we’re going to eat out – one of my favorite chain restaurants – Applebee’s. A lot of people look down their noses at Applebee’s , but I really like their barbeque riblets a lot. In fact, when I go to Applebee’s, if they tell me they are sold out of their riblets, I don’t order something else, I leave the restaurant and go eat somewhere else! So, I look forward to the chance to eat there when I can! We’re going to try to get there as close to 5pm as possible, to beat the big dinner crowd.

Lay low day, taxes are done

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

Today was just a lay-low kind of day. I’ve been really busy doing my taxes (whew, they ARE done and mailed off!) and needed to stay home and rest and recharge. Just checked my emails, read through a few magazines, do a little bit of laundry, take a nice long nap, watch a little television, cook a frozen pizza and just vegg out as much as possible. I need days like this from time to time!

Olympics in China - protests

Monday, April 7th, 2008

I’ve been reading with interest the protests surrounding the Olympic Torch relay. Apparently the protests are happening because the demonstrators are upset that the Olympics are being held in China, and China has such a bad record of human rights violations. It seems that when the Olympic Committee awarded the 2008 site to China, China promised to improve its human rights problems, and it has not done so. Because of that lack of improvement, there are protests following the Olympic Torch. Some people are calling for other countries (including the US) to boycott the Olympics completely. Although I understand the reasons for this, I think it would be a shame, and wrong to boycott the Olympics. The athletes that have been training for years to be in the Olympics should not be caught in a political battle; this just would not be fair to them at all.
