Security is an issue

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

My father came home from work today, quite upset.  His office had been broken into over the course of last night, and the entire office was ransacked.  Things were broken, some things were taken.  They don’t yet know what all is missing, but they are rethinking their security system.  They are considering hiring Leo Protection - a Private Security company.  Leo Protection is based out of California but serves their security clients nationwide.  They are a highly professional organization that provides private security and event security.  All of their employees are experienced former armed forces, special forces, law enforcement officers, or top security professionals.  My father showed me their website - very impressive!

Landline or not?

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

I’ve been hearing and reading more cases of families giving up their hard-wired landline in their homes in favor of simply using cell phones.  I can understand the logic, the cell phones are small and they carry them with them at all times, the landline phone is usually larger and more cumbersome.  Yet I question the wisdom of this strategy.  I like having a landline phone, one that is completely hardwired, and corded.  Yes, we have cordless phones, but if and when the electricity goes out (and it DOES go out!) and the cell phones are useless because our house is a dead zone, we depend on the hardwired, corded landline to call the electric company to report the power outage!  And we use it to keep in touch with friends and family during the power outage!  In 1998 we had a huge ice storm that knocked the electricity out for nineteen days, but we had the telephone service every minute!  We could not have maintained cell phones in that case because we could not have kept them charged!

So, in OUR house, anyway, I expect the landline is here to stay.  What about you?

Online Real Estate

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

My cousin came over for supper tonight, and was all excited to tell me about his plans to get rich in Online Real Estate.  He was so excited, he could hardly contain himself!  He has a friend that told him about the business opportunities he could explore with it, and he has decided to give it a try.

When I use the term Online Real Estate, what do you think of?  I used to think of buying a condo in Florida or Mexico.  But my cousin explained to me that online real estate really refers to the value of a specific domain name.  When someone is interested in running an Internet based business, getting the right domain name is crucial.  After obtaining the right domain name, marketing the domain properly to make money is vital.

My cousin showed me the website of  iGoMogul; an online real estate developing and marketing company that is dedicated to helping its clients to obtain the most valuable domain name, then help them to market the domain name.  They help to set their clients up with payperclick advertising and help them to market products that are supplied by their vendor.

For development and consulting services they include web development and marketing, graphic and print design, custom programming and database design, training and support, and e-commerce solutions.  For their marketing and promotion services, they include press releases, blog reviews, and directories.  It sure sounds like they cover all the bases!

More record profits for the oil companies

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

I was reading on time.com that Exxon reported the largest quarterly profit EVER for any US company.  Why does this not surprise me?  The price of gasoline is outrageous, and we all know that the salaries and benefits of the oil company executives are obscene.  I think that we should switch over to biofuel made from algae and put the oil companies completely out of business.  I think they are a bunch of greedy crooks and they are holding the world hostage with their oil.

September 7 is Father’s Day!

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

I just learned that Australia celebrates Fathers Day on the first Sunday in September!  I didn’t realize that different countries celebrated Fathers Day on different days than we do here in the United States!  I just always thought that the Mothers Day and Fathers Day holidays were celebrated universally, like Christmas and Easter! Australians best be getting their ducks in a row and start shopping for their Father’s Day Gifts in pretty quick order!

The dadshop.com.au website has a lot of great gifts for Fathers Day - from clothes to gadgets, puzzles to toys.  I was looking at the website and saw the neatest gift of all - a T-shirt with a bottle opener built into it!  I’ll bet that would go over great with just about anyone’s dad!
