The ISIS Lab is holding their fifth annual Cyber Security Awareness Week from now until October 14.  A very large part of the week is an information security competition run by students.  The competition will culminate with an awards ceremony and presentations by industry leaders.  The competition is open to students around the country, not just limited to NYU-Poly.  Interested students can register for the competition at isis.poly.edu/csaw/.

Cash prizes will be given to the winners of the competition.  There are seven categories of competition, and each category will have their own prizes.  The categories are Security Quiz, Research Poster, Forensics, AppSec Capture the Flag, Essay Contest, Security Awareness Posters, and Underhanded Hardware.

First prize is $500.  Second prize is $250, and third prize is $100.   There will also be door prizes, bonus prizes and raffles for high school and undergraduate participants.  A travel scholarship will be awarded to qualified finalists to attend the awards ceremony in New York City.

Anyway, because he has been unable to work they have not been able to keep up on their mortgage payments and the mortgage company is not granting them any slack at all. My aunt is working three jobs, but is not making enough money to pay all of the bills.  They asked for a special hardship forbearance and the mortgage company refused. Long story short they are losing their house and their credit is ruined.  Their credit card companies are cancelling their cards because they have fallen behind on their mortgage payments.

This sad story has been a huge “awakening” to me about just how rotten life can be to good people who never did anyone any harm and have only been generous and gracious and hard working their entire lives.  They are going to have to look into getting some loans for people with bad credit to help them get through the next few years.  They are going to need some financial help to find a new place to live, and the only way they are going to get it is through a company that extends credit to people with poor credit.  What is really sad about this is that people with poor credit usually have to pay higher interest rates and higher fees, which makes their lives even more difficult!

Business Loans were also a main part of the conversation.  He’s been trying hard to do business with the local banks, but they have been playing hardball with him and he is getting discouraged and frustrated with how difficult they are being with him.  So he is going to be turning to the Internet company called ezunsecured.com to see if he can get his financing through them.

Their website sounds like they will be easy to deal with; they say that they provide financing for new businesses, for working capital, for lines of credit, for debt consolidation, for business expansion, and that they also provide credit cards. Their website promises great service, an easy process, and fast funding.

Their website says that they provide loans without the need for collateral, tax returns, business plans, or UCC filings.  Their interest rates start as low as 5% and they will lend up to $10 Million!  They do require that their applicants have good credit scores with no bankruptcies in the past ten years and no overdue accounts, but that shouldn’t be a problem for my uncle, his credit is top-notch!  My uncle says he is going to fill out their online application tomorrow morning and let us know how it goes.

I’ve found a website that reviews the most popular Internet dating sites.  The website is called primedatingsites.com.  I’ve been looking at it, using it to try to determine which dating site sounds like the best fit for what I’m interested in.  I saw that it has a review of the Chemistry.com site.  I’m thinking about using that one; I’ve seen the ads on TV about how it matches up people that were rejected by other popular sites.

I have friends that have tried the Match.com service, and were disappointed because the website said that they were too complicated to figure out for their matchmaking services.  I think I might give that a try anyway, since that’s the one that Dr. Phil keeps recommending.

My aunt tells me that she has some friends that got married recently after finding each other through the eHarmony service.  That sounds like a good testimonial, too, so maybe I’ll check that one out too!

Anyway, while I was testing the pens, I realized that I really like the fat pens much better than the thin pens.  They are much easier to use.  I can remember back in kindergarten, thinking about how I’d like to be all grown up and use the skinny pencils, now I’d just as soon use the fat ones again!  Too funny!

I was looking at their website, trying to get a feel for what they do, and it really sounds quite amazing.  They basically do everything except sales!  They even handle the returns and refurbishment procedures of a company! 

This AMS Fulfillment Company is located in California, and has a warehouse space of 140,000 square feet.  Their ceilings are 35 feet tall!  They use advanced technology to process inventory.  They serve clients from many different industries; such as shoes and clothes, purses, cosmetics, CDs and DVDs, toys and games, costume jewelry, nutritional supplements, electronics, and publishing. 

My father said that his boss wants him to fly out to California to look at the facility and meet with their representatives to discuss the possibility of doing business with them.  He’s thinking about trying to work it out so that we can all go with him and spend a couple of days of vacation while we are out there.  If I can arrange to go with him, I’d love to go check out that company with him, it sounds very interesting.  I’d like to get a tour!
