More troops to Afghanistan
I was just hearing that President Bush is promising to send more US troops to Afghanistan by year’s end. This is a result of the fact that the death toll for US troops in Afghanistan in June was at a record high - it was the deadliest month for US troops in Afghanistan since the war began almost seven years ago, in October 2001.
I would imagine that the death toll increased largely due to the fact that the prison break occurred a few weeks ago in Afghanistan that released almost one thousand Taliban prisoners! As far as I’m concerned, I’ve heard that “intelligence reports” have always indicated that Afghanistan is where the terrorists have always been concentrated and we should have sent our troops THERE instead of Iraq.
