Usually not home on a Saturday night, but since we are all going out to party hearty Sunday night for New Year’s Eve, I decided to stay home and get to bed early. We all stayed out so late last night that I’m running on empty and need some sleep. So I want to pick a movie on cable and fall asleep in my recliner when my eyes get too heavy.
There are so many good movies on cable tonight. What is up with that? Usually I’ve got 700 channels and not a damn thing worth watching. But tonight I have to pick from 6 different ones that are all good in their own right. I decoded to go with the Blues Brothers on Cinemax. I really dig that movie – it was good times, back in the day!
Our family loves to throw costume parties for Halloween. They think it is a great way to protect the kids from potential harm from wackos during the Halloween season. My whole family gets into the act, and we throw the party for the whole neighborhood. We spend weeks looking at what Halloween Costumes we want to wear for the party.
This year my brother has decided that he wants to wear one of the Teen Halloween Costumes of Jack Sparrow that he found Online. My father bought one of the Halloween Costumes of Hellboy that he found. I found the cutest Tinker Bell Costume that I bought! This is going to be fun!
Valentine’s Day is a Day of Heartbreak for Many People. I often wish that Valentine’s Day was never invented, never celebrated. I can remember when I was in school some of the teachers required that every kid bring a valentine card for every other kid, and the class had a party, and that worked out well. But there were a lot of teachers that did not require that – they let the kids pick out who to give valentine cards to, and there were kids in the class that gave out valentines and did not get any in return. Or they gave out valentines cards to all of the classmates but only got one or two back. That is heartbreaking to a shy kid, who tries so hard to make friends, to have that happen to them. (Speaking from experience here!)
Then in the higher grade levels, the kids made a big deal in school about their romantic interest giving them a valentine’s day card and a gift. So many kids got nothing, and that hurts! During a time when kids egos are so fragile, they don’t need that kind of blow to their ego!
As adults, there are so many times that people have no romantic interest during Valentine’s Day, or they may be separated from their love for reasons beyond their control. So much pain, and sorrow. And then the couples and families that are struggling so hard financially that they can’t afford to buy a card, or a gift, or cook a special meal for their loved one! Valentine’s Day? Bah Humbug I say!
I was at a neighborhood block party last weekend and met some new people that I had not met before. I always go to the town-wide neighborhood street parties with ambiguity – I don’t want to be rubbing elbows with the creep that we suspect is a child molester that is always leering at the young girls, or the guy that we suspect is the serial arsonist that’s never been caught. However, I like going to the street parties to hobnob with the few that show up that are my age and share my interests and see what’s going on in their lives that might be of interest. Maybe they’ve found something fun to do that I could try out. Goodness knows in this neck of the woods good clean fun is hard to find!
So it was with quite a bit of surprise that I met a woman about my age who shares the same musical interests that I have, likes the same kinds of movies, television shows and books that I do, and shares my love of animals. So we spent quite a bit of time socializing and she told me to check out her blog when I got home and had a chance to check it out. I did, and I was glad that I did because now I feel like I’ve gotten to know her a little better. I hope we can keep in touch!
I’ve been invited to a roller skating party this weekend, and I’ve been trying to decide whether to go to it or not. It has been at least ten years since I’ve been on roller skates, and I’m wondering how much time I’ll be spending on my butt if I decide to go. My previous experiences at roller rinks has been that there are always a few people that cut you off and trip you up. I wonder if the rink has roller blades available to rent, or just the traditional skates; I think I’d like to try my hand at blading if I go to it. I wonder how sore my muscles will be after I go!
